A grade of stainless steel, i.e. S31803 has gone through various modifications. These modifications resulted in the duplex stainless steel UNS S32205. The variation offered by this one has elevated resistance to corrosion. This alloy contains almost 40-50 % of ferrite in the annealed state. In this duplex stainless steel, the corrosion resistance is because of the austenitic grade whereas the high strength is because of the ferritic grade. It also has more resistance to crevice corrosion and chloride pitting when compared to 317L type of stainless steel. Moreover, it possesses amazing resistance to corrosion from seawater and sulphuric acid. Also, it offers resistance to sulphide stress corrosion cracking.
